Rachel Newsletter: April 2012

It's HERE!  Introducing Rachel's enews:

I know that time is short for most people...and thanks to Facebook, Iphones, Androids, Blackberries, and the simple onslaught of Internet entertainment...time therefore has become in high demand.
So let's get ON with it!

Rachel Dickson here...and welcome to the first installment of many to come where I hope to provide useful (mixed with fun of course) artsy related information that you can use...as well as keep you in the know about my upcoming art related projects.

Feel free to send me your comments or tell me about topics you'd like to see included in upcoming newsletters.  Since this issue is the introductory issue...I will be simply laying groundwork for topics to come.  I hope you enjoy the ride!

Abstract Paintings Fresh from the Studio:

Introducing original mini-paintings, abstract on wood! If you are an avid art collector OR if you've been an art lover and have yet to start your personal collection, these little minis are perfect! Seven inches by seven inches?  Five inches by five inches? We all have space in our homes or office for a painting to fit that size.  Which is why I opted to paint small.  Affordable too!

To get a closer look, simply click on any of the images below.

Art in the News:

We all know that most news is not very uplifting or inspiring. Which is why I've decided to add a new section to http://www.racheldickson.com called "Art in the News."

Art just isn't covered enough in the mainstream media. Artists are ALWAYS doing COOL stuff...and I think it warrants public mention.

So take some time to check this out...click here.

P.S.  Know of artsy newsy stuff that I should include? Let me know! Email me at rachel at racheldickson.com

(Put an @ where the word "at" shows here...I've had to list it this way so I don't get spammed to death by those evil web bots)

Books that Rachel Recommends:.

I LOVE to read!  But yes, I know, not everyone does.  So if you don't give two rips around reading...skip this section.  Otherwise, read on!

Just something about the written word!  Check 'em out.

Got a book you like? Tell me about it!

The Daily Blog:

Twenty years form now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. EXPLORE. DREAM. DISCOVER."

This quote is prominently displayed near my desk so I see it OFTEN!  I think I've sort of adopted it as my personal credo...driving me to ask "Why Not?"....rather than "Why?"

You will find daily musings, adventure recaps, talk about personal thought topics and much more at Rachel's blog.  Certainly the most comprehensive place online that you'll find the goings-on with Rachel.

Go, Do, BE!

Support the Arts:

This is very simple. No really, it is. Unless you live in Ohio.

Tennessee Arts Commission Cat PlateIn June of 2011 I moved to Ohio after living in Tennessee for 19 years.  I've been sporting the Tennessee Arts Commission "Cat Plate" for close to 10 of those years.

According to  http://www.tn4arts.org/specialty-plates/, "More than 70% of the money used to fund the 800+ grants from the Tennessee Arts Commission last year was from the sale of these specialty license plates." AND for all those years that I've had the Tennessee Plate, I strongly felt that this was SUCH a SIMPLE way for me to show my support for the arts!

So you can IMAGINE my disappointment when I learned that the State of Ohio has NO SUCH plate.  Geez!  Are you KIDDING ME?  If the State of Tennessee can have not one, not TWO, but FOUR plates to choose from that support the arts, can't Ohio have ONE?

If you live in Tennessee, show your support for the arts by purchasing one of these COOL art plates!  If you live in Ohio? Well, for now there is no such plate. Live in another state?  Contact your State's DMV to learn if you too can support the arts by sporting the art plate on your vehicle.

Artists that I LIKE!:

Dhanat , 9 year old abstract artist. You might be surprised to know that the artist, Dhanat Plewtianyingthawee, is only a little boy of about 9 years old with his special talent in art. He paints over two thousand remarkable big and small abstracts and already had his first solo art exhibition in Bangkok in April 2006 when he was three and a half years old.  Dhanat is 9 years old now and lives in Thailand.

I discovered his work sort of accidentally, but as an abstract artist myself...I love looking at other abstract art.  While surfing around the web I stumbled up artwork by Dhanat. I think his work is pretty dang awesome!

Check it out for yourself.  And notice that the International shipping is only $9.00 so very affordable to own one of his paintings.

Please note here...that one of my goals in publishing this enewsletter is simply to inspire you to become your best self!  I fall prey to life's distractions and have to work at letting my own creativity flow.

"Man plans, God laughs!" I often find plans are the key to success, and failure. Think about this: your plan is getting in the way of your success and happiness! Too often people’s plans block inspiration, flexibility, receptivity, lateral thinking, eureka and other great things. Take time today to give up your plan for something even more divine, beautiful and wise."
Robert Holden said this...and I have to concur!
