Anywhere but here?:

Cheerio, Art Lovers!

I fall prey to this all the time! And yet, other times...when I don't...it's everywhere, we are surrounded by it. I'm talking
about the vibrational energy of "nope, I really don't like this...not diggin it. Complain, moan, gripe." About which topic? Oh that's usually anything to do with our current state. Job, income, weather, living condition (home), health, family, relationship, what we do or don't have, you name it...it's fits into this topic. Need more clarification? How bout "I'd rather be at...{fill in the blank}" or "how come he/she has that and I don't?" or "hurry weekend and get here."

I challenge anyone to log on to Facebook and read through no less than two dozen posts on the general news feed coming from friends. Bet you way over half of them are grumps and groans about something. And why? Why do we do this? If we really want things to be different then what does grumping and moaning accomplish? Sure, we all have challenges in our lives...but what do we spend most of our time focusing on?

I used to think that changing something required a certain set of actionable steps. But I'm coming to learn different. It simply begins with our own mind and what we choose to think about. What thought we choose to hold in our mind. I find that when I'm in a funk...looking at artwork, listening to music or reading has a way of derailing my funk-train and getting me thinking about the good stuff again. Everyone can have their own "go to" thought adjuster catalyst, you just gotta figure out what it is and realize when you need to utilize it.

If you really want something to be different in your today...remember...you can begin anywhere. Because all we have to work with is right now anyway.

What do you think?

ok, now THIS is just COOL!:

pbrart.com entry by Rachel DicksonI stumbled across an art opportunity the other day that I just COULDN'T pass up!!!
Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer has been hosting a "Draw Responsibly" contest of sorts since 2007. And geez...I'm just NOW finding this out? Slacker!

Anyway, I visited pbrart.com two days ago and decided...heck-to-the-yeah...I'm so doing this! And viola...here is the result of side one "Up a Creek Without a....PBR". (side two coming here-to-for)

I've been waiting to paint something cool on this fab little mini-paddle I've been toting around. I love kayaking and whitewater rafting...so somehow having a mini-paddle resonated as no less than awesome to me. What BETTER thing to use as a canvas and paint a coolio "ode to PBR?"
So wish me luck! I submitted this image to pbrart.com this morning. Puts me in the running for a chance to win $1893 in cash, schwag and fame!
Booyah, Pabst Blue Ribbon.  Thank you for the opportunity!

Artists that I LIKE!:

Hugh MacLeod, cartoon artistWe all love clever, disguised as creative bits of wisdom (life experience). That's what Hugh MacLeod's artwork is all about! Simple doodles that pack a punch.

Hugh said (and I couldn't agree more!),"An artist is quite a f*%$#!-up thing to be, and to be honest Iím not sure if I would recommend it to anybody. Still, in my collection there are a couple of examples that, in some sick and twisted way, make the whole thing seem worthwhile. For the first five minutes, at least."

Like cartoon art? Take a look at Hugh's work!

"The best cartoons are the ones that give you these amazing moments of clarity as you draw them. Thatís the best thing about cartooning, really. Everything else seems rather secondary in comparison." Hugh MacLeod (gapingvoid.com)

I don't think we give enough credit to where credit is due. Nor do I think it really cool that most accolades aren't given until AFTER those who've inspired us or left an impression on us one-way-or-another are gone. With that in mind, I've created a page on my website where I've begun listing some of those people. Titled "Cool Friends", it's on that page (obviously an evolving project) that I begin to tell their stories.

Rushing in!:

Sometimes things in our lives rush in....pour in...and overflow. Sometimes these are good things and sometimes not-so-good. Which is what this painting is about. Measuring 3.50"x3.50" this mini-abstract would be a great accent to that part of your home you need a little bit of red.Click here to view Rushing In

Where Audio meets ART:

Click here to check out sky.fm for yourself
I am, without question, an audio person. Got that from my dad. I grew up listening to radio and have grown to love inspirational audio! I'm tuned to hear it. For example, upon entering a shopping mall or retail store I automatically notice whether or not there is music playing in the background.

Audio inspires everyone, one way or another...no matter if it's music or talk.

So what is it that I listen to when I'm creating in the studio? Usually I reach for http://www.sky.fm for continuous online streaming of music that I can select by genre. (Check out "Nature," "Classic Piano Trios," "Solo Piano," "Piano Jazz," "Jazz Classics" among others.)

Other online streaming favorites that Rachel listens to:

Prairie Home Companion

Ted Talks

Rachel Dickson, always willing to wear an appropriate tshirt
I have my moments of poor judgment and dumb remarks. Yes. No real surprise there. But if you're gonna hunt adventure and go, be, do...sometimes ya just gotta shut it and simply go, be, do.
This picture is one of those moments. Hiking along in Oak Openings with Chris, Isabella, her buddy Elaine, Issac and his buddy Jacob we came across this creek. And well, I'm not gonna pass up one of those "hey, Rach, time to explore" moments, especially when there are kids to inspire! So I take off my shoes, hop down off the bridge and start walkin in the water...the boys follow. It was fun! The girls followed shortly thereafter. Everyone was laughing and carrying on in no time!
I might call this a "game changer" moment. When you're tootling along...and BLAM, something catches your attention...and you're inspired to reach out and explore. One never knows what awaits!
Until next time...enjoy your life! After all...we are the ones creating it.
